Try a pricing rule on last year's sales before you switch anything on

A written pricing rule, such as marking down slow movers, replayed on 12 months of your orders to show what it would have done, never below your floor. It does not predict revenue.

Who this is for

Owner of a store thinking about markdown or pricing rules who wants to see them replayed before they touch live prices.

You are considering a rule such as "mark down a slow mover after eight weeks" and want to know what it would have done to last year.

The result

A written rule you choose is replayed on 12 months of your order lines. You get a reproducible report of every price the rule would have set, none below your floor, and a plain line that it does not predict revenue or customer response.

What is included

  • One pricing rule, written down in plain steps, with its trigger and limits
  • 12 months of order lines (SKU, date, quantity, price paid) and stock levels, without customer data
  • A replay showing, per SKU and week, the price the rule would have set
  • A check that no replayed price is below the floor you supply
  • A reproducible script and report

You receive

  • The written rule
  • The replay report
  • The script
  • Floor check results
  • A plain statement of what the replay cannot show

What is not included

  • Predicting revenue, profit or customer response
  • Changing any live price
  • Rules that use competitor prices
  • Personalised prices for individual customers
  • Marketplace repricing
  • Customer data

What we need from you first

  • The rule in one or two sentences
  • How many SKUs and how much history you have
  • Whether you already have floors
  • No customer data or store login

Never send passwords, keys, customer records or confidential code in the first enquiry. Secure handover is agreed after scoping.

How we check it is done

  • Running the script twice on the same export gives identical reports.
  • No replayed price in the report is below the floor you supplied; one below the floor fails the whole test.
  • Your reviewer recomputes 10 replayed prices by hand and each matches the report.
  • The first lines of the report state that it replays past orders and does not predict revenue or customer response.

You re-run the acceptance checks with the steps we hand over, read the results and sign off in writing. Payment follows sign-off.

When we would stop or decline

  • The rule keys off named competitors' prices
  • You want a forecast of revenue
  • Order history is under six months, or has long stock-out gaps you cannot mark
  • You want the rule switched on for you

Questions

Will it tell me what profit I would make?

No. It shows what the rule would have done on past orders. Customers might have behaved differently.

Can you switch the rule on?

No. You decide, and you change prices in your own store.

Does it use my competitors' prices?

No. It uses only your own sales, stock and floors.

Does a pass mean it will be right next month?

No. A pass describes items like the test sample on the day of the test. It is not a promise about future items, and it does not replace your own checking.
